Chronograph Watches

Thomas Sabo chronograph watches add a stopwatch function and extra sub-dials to the standard watch face, which gives them a busier, more technical look. They run on quartz movements in stainless steel cases, so they keep good time and stay low-maintenance. The chronograph styling suits someone who likes more going on across the dial.

The extra sub-dials and pushers give a chronograph a sportier, more detailed feel than a plain three-hand watch. They come in steel, gold and darker tones, on bracelets or leather straps. Because the dial is busier, a slightly larger case usually suits the style, so it's worth checking the size sits well on your wrist.

Choosing one

A few things to weigh up:

  • Chronograph dials are busier, so a clear layout is worth looking for.
  • Larger cases suit the style but need a wrist that carries them.
  • Steel bracelets are hard-wearing; leather softens the look.

Care

Wipe the case and strap with a soft cloth and keep the watch clear of heavy water unless it's rated for it. Avoid pressing the chronograph pushers underwater. Have the battery changed by someone who can reseal the case, and keep the watch out of direct heat.

Styling and gifting

Reading the dial

The sub-dials on a chronograph usually track the stopwatch seconds, minutes and sometimes hours, with the main hands keeping the time as normal. You don't have to use the stopwatch function for the watch to look the part — plenty of people wear a chronograph purely for the busier, more technical dial. The pushers either side of the crown start, stop and reset the timer when you do want it.

A chronograph suits a more sporty or technical look and stands as the main piece on the wrist. As a gift it works for someone who likes detail on their watch rather than a minimal dial, and there's no sizing to get wrong. We ship Australia-wide and Afterpay is available at checkout.
